Camping in Croatia – short guide for first time campers

Tips & tricks

Camping is an awesome experience, but it can also be a bit challenging, especially if you’ve never done it before. To make it easier for you, we prepared a list of things you need to know about if this is the first time you’re camping in Croatia.

Where can you camp

Croatia, and especially Croatian coast, is filled with smaller camping sites and larger organised camping villages that will enable you to feel the full beauty of the nature and experience an unforgettable summer vacation. It’s important to know that camping in Croatia is regulated, so you can’t just pitch a tent wherever you like, it has to be on a location that’s designated as a camping spot. If you want to go camping in Croatia, reserving a pitch in one of the available camps is your best and simplest solution. View camping pitches offer in Camping Village Šimuni.

Wild & overnight camping

As we already said, camping in Croatia is strictly regulated and camping outside of designated areas is not allowed, so make sure you plan out your vacation before your arrival. That includes destinations you’ll be visiting as well as camps you wish to stay in. There are also no overnight camping options available in Croatia. Unless you reserve a dedicated space for your camper, trailer or tent, you won’t be able to spend the night at parking lots or other locations that may seem suitable.

Tent, trailer or camper

Almost every camp in Croatia allows you to place a tent, trailer or a camper on the camping pitch, so the choice of accommodation is completely up to you and your wishes. If you want to go all outdoorsman-style, tent is the way to go, but if you want to keep a bit more comfort and luxury, trailers and campers may be the best choice. And there are all kinds of them – from the basic ones that just come with a bed to luxurious homes on wheels.

Rent-a-camper

If you want to experience what camping in a camper is like, but you don’t own a camper yourself, there are numerous rental options in Croatia. You can contact our info desk ([email protected]) if you want us to connect you with some of our preferred partners, or you can do a quick Google search and find a rental service that has the type of camper you want. Just make sure to reserve your camper before you arrive to Croatia.

Get to know the rules

Last but not least, before you arrive, get acquainted with the house rules of a camp you’re staying in or any location you plan on visiting. You can usually find house rules on websites and these short documents will give you a good overview of the things you need to know about camping at that particular place. For example, our own house rules will give you a list of things that are prohibited and allowed, as well as some general information about the camp.

Now that you know what to expect when you go camping in Croatia, it’s time to book your ideal vacation in Camping Village Šimuni and start your camping adventure!
