How to set up a perfect hammock

Tips & tricks

Relaxing in a swaying hammock is the epitome of vacationing. If you feel the same way, we’ve got a few tips that will elevate your hammock experience!

First, you have to find your perfect spot, along with two sturdy trees about 3,5 to 7,5 meters apart. Avoid those with loose branches, and make sure there aren’t any beehives on the tree.

To set up your hammock, you’re going to need 2 carabiners, rope (or polyester webbing) and a hammock.

Now let’s get to business! Take your rope and cut it into two pieces 2 to 3 meters long and tie a loop in each end using a figure eight on a bight knot.

Eight on a bight knot is a overhand knot with an extra half turn in it. If you’re not sure how to make it, there are plenty of quick tutorials that will help you master it in no-time.

Take your rope and tie it around a tree. When you’re determining the height you will tie your hammock at, try to do it at a chair’s height. This means that the “entrance” of your hammock should be at the height of a chair when you sit down. We can’t help you determine the exact spot on the tree you should start tying your hammock to be at chair height, but we can tell you the more distance there is between the two trees you’ve picked, the higher you should tie your hammock.

Take the carabiner and put it through the loop of your rope. Repeat the process on the other tree and just clip the ends of your hammock with the carabiner, so the carabiner is connected to your rope and to the ends (strings) of your hammock. You can always put a foam pad or something soft in your hammock to help you relax even more. And that’s it, you hammock is set!
