How to stay warm in a sleeping bag

Tips & tricks

Camping Village Šimuni is open all year round because many of our guests love camping during the winter. If you too like to camp in winter, here’s how you can warm yourself up in a sleeping bag!

Winter camping recently became extremely popular, so many decide to visit the Adriatic for a short vacation. Although Croatia is not as cold in winter as some northern countries, it is always good to know how to warm up if the temperatures drop. Here are 7 ways that will ensure your sleeping bag is always warm.

Don’t wait until you’re cold to add some layers

Put a couple of extra layers of clothing on yourself as soon as the temperatures drop. If you wait until you start getting cold before you do it, warming up will take you a lot more time.

Get some thermal clothing

Thick thermal clothing that keeps the heat is a thing without which you should not go on the road if you plan to camp during the fall or winter. Although it may be strange to wear long underwear at first, at least it will keep you warm at all times.

Always have a bottle of warm water with  yourself

A bottle of warm water will enable you to warm yourself up in a matter of minutes. Just put it in a sleeping bag and hold it close to yourself to absorb its heat.

Add an extra blanket into your sleeping bag

Although sleeping bags (especially those used for camping in the winter) have a very good lining, you can always put in an extra blanket that will heat you up at night. An additional blanket will allow you to keep the heat inside the bag even better.

Insulate the bottom of your tent

To prevent heat from leaving or cold from entering through the bottom of your tent, place an extra blanket on it. You don’t need anything special, a regular blanket will be just fine. The only important thing is to cover as much space as possible, especially the part below your sleeping bag.

Use a smaller tent

Since you aim during the colder winter days is to keep as much heat, instead of camping in a large tent, take a small one. Because of their smaller space, smaller tents are easier to warm up and they can keep the heat for much longer.

Use portable heaters with extreme caution

If you decided to go camping in a tent, don’t use heaters in them, because accidents are much more likely to happen in such a small space. If you have a heater, use it outside the tent to quickly heat up and then return inside.
